Here are a few examples of phishing scams to watch out for:
Tax Phishing Scams: Scammers send fake emails or texts claiming to be from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) requesting personal and financial information, such as National Insurance numbers, bank details, and login credentials for online services.
Supplier Payment Phishing Scams: Scammers send fake emails pretending to be a supplier or vendor and request a change in payment details for invoices, typically to a fraudulent bank account.
CEO Fraud: Scammers send emails pretending to be a CEO or senior executive, asking for an urgent money transfer to be made, often to a fraudulent account.
Payroll Phishing Scams: Scammers send emails pretending to be from HR or payroll departments, requesting employee information such as login credentials and bank details.
Credential Harvesting Scams: Scammers send fake emails that contain links to fake login pages that appear to be genuine, with the aim of harvesting the login credentials of the user (Docusign / e-signature emails have been recently used)
These phishing scams are always more sophisticated, “professional” and hard to spot. Both your staff and clients receive these emails daily and it is key to always be cautious and check the following:
Check the sender's email address
Be cautious of emails that create a sense of urgency.
Check for grammar and spelling errors
Be cautious of suspicious links
Watch out for requests for personal information
